FAQ End of life of equipment

Resale of your unused IT equipment, revaluation, WEEE recycling… All the questions you ask yourself about the end of life of your fleet of smartphones, tablets and PCs.

What is the difference between Reuse, Recycling, Upcycling?
  • Reuse: Reuse is the process by which your IT equipment is guaranteed to obtain a second life for the same use as that for which it was designed. By opting for reuse, you extend the lifespan of your professional equipment and contribute to reducing the production of electronic waste.
  • Recycling:  Action of recovering equipment (company smartphone , company PC , professional tablet) which cannot be reused to process them and recover the raw materials they contain in order to reintroduce them into the production cycle.
  • Upcycling: Reusing computer equipment to create another product, with a different use than that for which it was designed.

The GDPR, or General Data Protection Regulation, establishes a legal framework for the protection of personal data in companies . When disposing of IT equipment, employees must be informed about the processing of personal data from their equipment (company smartphone, company PC, professional tablet) and can retrieve it or request its deletion. Companies must therefore be able to prove that the deletion of company data is done properly (for example, data deletion certified by Blancco) and allow employees to save their data and remove their Icloud and Gmail accounts.

At Codeo, we pay particular attention to the security and traceability of your data. We are Blancco certified for the complete datawiping of your devices and we provide a data erasure certificate by IMEI number to ensure that your refurbished business phones have been completely wiped of their data.

There are two types of audit:

  • Cosmetic audit, where Codeo technicians assess whether the equipment is functional. If the equipment is not working, it cannot be recovered and will be sent for recycling. In this case, the raw materials that make up the equipment are recovered and reintroduced into the manufacturing cycle.
  • Technical audit, during this audit, the equipment is evaluated according to 24 control points to ensure that it meets the necessary standards. Based on this evaluation, the equipment is then properly revalued.
  1. Plan – Don’t wait until you have all your units to revalue them. Consider doing it gradually to get the best financial value.
  2. Unlock – Request an unlock from your carrier to obtain the deactivation codes. This step can take time and block the audit, so plan ahead!
  3. Depersonalise – Ask your employees to back up their data and remove their iCloud and Gmail accounts. Also, remove your devices from your company’s MDM.
  4. Erase – Make sure the company you entrust your fleet to has a recognised and certified data erasure accreditation such as Blancco
  5. Protect – Package your equipment properly to avoid breakage and use neutral packaging to minimise desirability.
  6. Raise awareness – Following the collection of your equipment, Codeo will inform you of: the volume of CO2 avoided, data erasure certificates.

Codeo’s mission is to recycle as much of your old equipment as possible. When recycling isn’t possible because the unit is blocked or out of service, it is recycled to recover the raw materials.

To achieve this, we work with various partners (Morphois, RSB, Ecologic) who ensure the various stages of recycling: first, logistics collection, weighing, IMEI recording and sorting of units; then, dismantling, crushing and processing of devices so that they can be recovered as raw materials. Our processes meet ISO14001, ISO9001 and Weelabex certifications.

Yes, we offer to organise a private internal sale to offer your employees the opportunity to buy your company’s smartphones, PCs or tablets.

A solution that allows you to optimise your costs related to managing the end of life of your fleet while contributing to the satisfaction of your company’s employees.
